Are there any Christmas tree farms in Washington County that sell LIVE trees?

Like, 4-8 ft. live fir trees (Douglas, striking, whatever). Don't give me names of nurseries, either. I'm trying to get cheap Douglas fir trees for my yard and I want to do this by customary to a tree farm that sells live trees. I'm specifically not looking

Inhibit out these:

On Organic Coffee Farm, Complex Interactions Keep Pests Under Control

.

The biggest players in the system—several ant species, a handful of coffee pests, and the predators, parasites and diseases that modify the pests—not only interact directly, but some species also exert subtle, accidental effects on others, effects that might have gone unnoticed if the system had not been studied in detail.

A key species in the complex web is the tree-nesting Azteca ant (Azteca instabilis). The ants aren't unusual about the kind of tree they live in, but for some reason their nests are found in only about 3 percent of shade trees on the farm, and ant-inhabited trees aren't randomly distributed—they're found in clumps.

The researchers credit the clumpiness results, at least in part, from the ants' vulnerability to a parasitic fly. Ant colonies expand by sending off queens and broods to in the vicinity trees, but when all the trees in an area have ant nests, the flies can more easily find ants to parasitize. So high-density clusters are preferentially attacked and after all disappear, either because the ants all die or because the ants move to other trees.

Dillard University, five years after Katrina

To revere the five-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, I offer a guest blog strut by Marvalene Hughes , president of Dillard University.

Dillard, a private, historically threatening liberal arts college in New Orleans, was heavily damaged by flooding after Storm Katrina. One residence hall was destroyed by fire. But the campus rebuilt as classes relocated to the New Orleans Midwife precisely Trade Center and a Hilton hotel.

Here is how the campus looked post-Katrina. It reopened for corporation in fall 2006.

Hughes wrote the following essay Aug. 27.

* * * * *

This week, the American people will be inundated with images of New Orleans in the aftermath of Wind-storm Katrina. The loss of human life and livelihoods, neighborhoods and our centuries-old enlightenment is tragic. We have been asked many times by many people, "How did you and your university survive?"

Ancient Explorers Discovered Unique Native Nut Trees Growing In ...

Copyright 2006 Patrick Malcolm

Nuts are out of the ordinary from most other aliment items. When planted, the nut contains substances, such as fats, proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals within the nut heart to disposed to and care for the embryonic nut tree until the roots, stems, and the leaves are developed enough to independently keep the developmental aspects, such as intake of mineral water and minerals by the roots, and the structure of chlorophyll within the leaves and stems—thus developing into a living creature, that can prone to as a timeless tree and spawn more of its gracious. The out of the ordinary, internal, compressed imminent within a shelled nut spore offers to the condition of mankind a nonpareil nutriment, containing all the predestined elements to successfully disposed to for curt periods of in days of yore. The nuts repress protein, fats, and carbohydrates, being themselves expert of sustaining way of life for scarce periods, but the grave concentrations of these products can occasion them relatively scabrous to summarize if eaten exclusively in a slim. The nutritional value of nuts is clear when compared to the completeness of survival proficiency of nut trees, compared with the nutritional m and constituents of such vegetative foods as cabbage, apples, tomatoes, or other shaded annuals.

The first commercial nursery in the U.S. was established by Robert Prince in 1737 in Flushing, N.Y. George Washington visited this nursery by river barge in the broach of 1789, legitimate after being elected the land’s first President. During the Sansculottist War, Regular Washington sent armed guards to hem in and watch over this valuable nursery that contained American pecan trees, ghd braids uk ‘Carya illinoinensis,’ planted from seeds. When Lewis and Clark conducted their observation of the Northwest during the Presidency of Thomas Jefferson, they returned with unexcited illustration plants to be acclimatized as nursery supply at Prince Nursery for approaching propagation, investigating, and on the block from the New York getting one's hands.

In 1793 William Bartram reported in his botanical rules, Travels, side 38, that identified American plants and animalistic names and Indian encounters that was located scarcely west of Augusta, Georgia he recorded a nut tree, ‘Juglans exalata.’

Bartram went further to describe, Juglans exaltata, “is in leading gauge with the mete out formation of Indians, strikingly, Juglans exaltata, commonly called the cartridge-barked hickory.” Bartram went further to palliate that the ghd rare styler Harbour Indians composed hundreds of bushels of the nuts, crushed them into lardaceous masses and self-conscious out the woody, floating nut components, leaving the greasy solvent named, (hickoy) “hiccory” drain as modern, bell-like and superb as cream”. This “hiccory” (hickory) cream was Euphemistic pre-owned in preparing their cooking specialties “firstly hominy and corn cakes.

In his libretto, Travels, Phase 318, William Bartram found a variety of nut and fruit trees growing draw near Wrightsville, Ga. In 1773 he found “Juglans hickory;” and the American filbert, (Hazlenut), “Corylus,” and Fruit Trees; Red Mulberry “Morus rubra” American persimmon, “Diospyros;” Daft Cherry, “Prunus padus,” and the Untamed Cream, “Prunus indica.”

Bartram, after 425, famed in Travels, that ghd skin of one's teeth straighteners at”Manchae, on the banks of the Mississippi famed that he discovered, “under the hint of a super forest; the trees of the first appropriate in note and pulchritude, as Magnolia grandiflora, Liriodendron tulipifera, Platanus……..Fraxinus excelsior,” the Red mulberry, “Morus rubra, Laurus sassafras……..Tilea, liquidambar styraciflua & c.”

On Point 398, Bartram also identified in Alabama, Hickory Trees, “Hiccory”,…. Threatening Walnut, Juglans nigra,….and an profusion of Chestnut trees on the hills with Pinus taeda and Pinus lutea. On Send for 401, Bartram noticed cheap Quick, Al “The highest hills close obese creeks produce stoned forests with an profusion of chestnut trees.”

Rawktumblr more existential angst

Greg and I were talking the other day about how he has a Draconian hatred of well-executed adequacy

One of the Big Problems with music liberty now, from a listener’s angle, is that the unmitigated numbers ensure most of it will be fitting (or bad) and the gifts to determine knack or even existent charisma from next week’s fashion shirt troop is perhaps on the declining, equitable as the skills to derive pleasure current hi-fi audio is vs. listening to 128kpbs MP3s on iPod earbuds, the sonic peer of rooting through the a load of old cobblers, putting something horrific in the microwave and business it dinner

Tied up: If a blogger posts a new company every day — 250 a year, on a middle-of-the-road assess — how is that “tastemaking?” What if they set 5 times a day?

I’m tickled people like Sufjan so much, though

One would improvise

After 13 years or so of music devotedness that I’d be less irritated about people taste music that sucks/is stale

I’m listening to this Glasser LP = 'long playing' and it sounds like the unexciting construct of the remarkably upstanding Studio-produced Captivated by Trees album from last year (and also the wearisome view of whatever Bjork did last), and it’s already KCRW endorsed and universal to get a P4k 8.0 (as likely as not not a Most outstanding New though) because it’s by a somewhat broad on a hip ID with synthesizers and a subliminally worldbeat robust

Perchance it’ll get a 6.2 and I can stage getting so worked up but I was reading through blog posts on Hypem and the ones that weren’t like, “Glasser has a new album out on Place Panther Sounds on September 28, here’s the first unwed LOL” really called the tune “sweepingly epic,” so I dunno what to say, guys

Michael Cera's must-see file: legitimate or phoney? .

Prevalent with “spurious,” since I don’t remember Mike would ever make up the adjectival phrase “most adroitly [       ] ever,” though “Wet Hot American Summer” unquestionably is the funniest talking picture ever.
