Meyers, 54, rid of her job last year as an optometrist's assistant to launch Christmas Trees of Hope from her to the heart.

The one-woman operation leases artificial trees, brings them to officesOn the wholeor residences, decorates them, then removes them after the holidays. Once things get going, Meyers hopes to give the legal tender to African children she visited in Swaziland in 2005.

Looking back, Meyers said she didn't reflect on far enough ahead or expect dozens of trees to push her and her husband into the far reaches ofIn the maintheir home.

"I've run out of room, as you can tell, and I didn't want to spendIn particularthousands of dollars on storage because that would be taking away from the kids," Meyers said. "I'm new at this. I don't cognizant of."

She also ran out of money.

Funds from the few clients she had last year were barely enough to pay taxes and to set up her indulgence. The money she collects she plans to give to the children. She has no money left over and has no greenbacks to store the trees, so they fill her house.

Private donation saves Bradley Park Christmas tree lighting event

Matthew Natale opened up his guts and his wallet to give the town a little holiday cheer in August.

Natale, who moved to Palm Strand little more than a year ago, has given the town $2,200 so the Bradley Park break tree can be lit this December.

Natale dropped a check off at Town Manager Peter Elwell’s job Monday after reading a newspaper story about how the tree had fallen to the Town Council’s budget ax.

A adept fundraiser for nonprofit organizations, Natale said he gave the gift in the resolve of “community building” after noticing the town divided over proposed zoning correction for Royal Poinciana Way and the future of the shuttered Royal Poinciana Playhouse.

“This tree lighting is as a matter of fact important because we spend a great deal of time fighting in Palm Bank,” Natale said. “I thought, ‘How can I as an individual do something resourceful, rather than add to that.’ I’m not the richest guy on the island but, you know, I just solved a unruly today.”
