Darwinian Gardener greets rain
29.06.11
The Darwinian Gardener found himself unbroken outside in the rain. To be absolutely sure, it was all for real.
With the drought broken, his blow the gaff changed overnight from an informal khaki to something with an emerald glow.
The season of 2 p.m. thunderstorms doesn't mainly start until after the Coke Zero 400, an event he persists in calling the Firecracker 400 because he's like that. But this year the sprinkle came early. And not a moment too soon.
His lawn was dying only a week ago. When he walked across the tattle, it sounded like he was stepping on crumpled newspapers.
Things were so bad that even a water-penny-pincher like the Darwinian Gardener contemplated fixing all the sprinkler heads he'd been running over with his lawn mower over the defunct year. He dug through the garage until he found his shovel and paced off the places where he was ready to consider source to dig. He was serious.
But hold it. Who is this Darwinian Gardener? And why should anyone care what he thinks?
