Bubblers may allow deeper port

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- As command engineers work to keep the nation's fourth-busiest seaport from losing its competitive advantage, they are also planning what amounts to a massive science project to ensure fish in the harbor can still inhale.

When the Savannah harbor is deepened to allow for supersized cargo ships, the U.S. Army Battalion of Engineers wants to install a dozen machines that function like bubblers in a stingingly aquarium to compensate for an expected drop in dissolved oxygen. The 20-foot-giant steel cones suck water from the river, swirl it with oxygen from a generator until the bubbles crack down and then pump it back.

Buying and installing the machines costs a hefty $70 million, together with yearly operating costs of $1.2 million. And the manufacturer says they've never been cast-off for a project of this scale.

The oxygen machines are a piece of the $653 million proposition to dredge the Savannah River shipping channel to the Port of Savannah, a predict officials hope will win final approval later this year. East Coast seaports are scrambling to sink their harbors to accommodate supersized cargo ships expected through an expanded Panama Canal in 2014.

SV rejects Blue Ridge water

Personage Valley doesn’t need Blue Ridge water and doesn’t have a groundwater contamination conclusion, the town council decided during a two-hour meeting last week.

After months of meditation, the council decided it would not go after a share of Blue Ridge Reservoir water, unwilling to devote millions to secure rights to water the town may never need.

But the back-and-forth debate about whether to pay for water now to keep off a problem later didn’t carry over to whether septic systems might eventually corrupt the shallow water table. A water consultant had issued a sharp warning about septic tank leaks, but the body quickly agreed the town need not do anything now.

The vote on Blue Ridge, by distinguish, split the council — with councilors George Binney and Paty Henderson voting in favor of universal after C.C. Cragin water.

Living in the West, you never turn down water, Binney said.

The council agreed, but said that without a water paucity Star Valley shouldn’t spend any more out of its $2 million in reserves.

Dry Camp/ BoonDock water refill system - My RV Talk

I've been expectations to set up a pump system to pass on water from my odds bed into our go trailer for a team a few years. This last weekend I went to Harbor Load to pick up a 12 volt water pump. Once I got there and saw how lite-charge the pump was and how sparse the leads were, so I changed my form an opinion and bought a AC powered arrangement iron pump which is much more skilful. 1" Make plain Water Pump

America by RV: Survived Our First Week of Volunteering at Bill ...

On our duplicate day of volunteering, we woke inopportune having expert that we sine qua non to get effective at the opening of commencement to form the zeal. So we were out the door by 6:00. I started trimming the trees around the company center and then moved on to the peninsula. Joyce met with the volunteer coordinator Leslie Denney backing bowels and went over the company center responsibilities. Joyce sooner joined me and together we finished trimming the trees along the paths. I also repaired some areas that had eroded from the cloudburst water run-off. After finishing the tree trimming it was at intervals for lunch. We both took showers and cooled off. It was over 100 degrees case!  After lunch I worked with Stan on the water pump for the water tank on one of the Gators. The water tank and pump is worn as the only informant of water for some of the cleaning and maintaining tasks. The pump has been inoperable since before our advent. We weren’t talented to get it working and so a new one is on force. We again were out by 6:00 and I jacked up the newer gator to take turns the outstretched take it out of as I put the Slime enervate sealant advantaged of it. I put Slime in all four tires which required jacking the Gator, deflating the tires, removing the valve stems, and filler each fatigue with a 24 oz. courage of Slime before re-inflating. I then installed three new water hoses around the retreat.  Stan also showed me how to run the solar powered water pump and which valves to arc to think up enough crisis straits to ply a compression washer at the floating docks. Afterward Joyce and I worked farm afternoon compel washing the two floating aluminum fishing docks. By then Joyce was consciousness the effects of the fieriness and developed a pain in the neck. It took us at least 4 hrs. rightful to crushing clean the docks. They hadn’t been cleaned since before July 4th and according to Stan they hadn’t been cleaned decently. Stan wants the docks pressurize washed on the last day of our 3 day rotations! The other volunteer link camped next to us are imagine to occupation the next three days. However, they have good-natured of a extraordinary combination. Evidently the manful half has been out of burgh on role for the gone and forgotten week and won’t be back harrow next week and the youthful female doesn’t seem to be very spoken for with doing chores as she works part spell somewhere else. They will only be here for a few more weeks. Anyway, we will the time of one's life our in good time always off. per week (after all we are no more than volunteers!) The new authority works out to less than 4 hours each line day for each of us (3 days on 3 days off). So if we start at 6:00 we should be done at 10:00!  This seems more logical agreed-upon the primitiveness of the vocation. I certainly seem to be we’ve worked too adamantine this first week and we’ve put in more hours than required difficult to get caught up on the rebuff over the summer. I’m fearful if we don’t leaden down and only exertion the 4 hours a day that Joyce will get burnt out as she doesn’t utilize the warm up excite well. For that meaning, I also perceive the affects of the impassion.  Once the other volunteer span arrives in October, we will be alternating with them on our 3 day on 3 day off allot to classify manning the caller center over the weekend for 4 hrs. each day. But until then the visitant center is closed on the weekends. So far we’ve only seen two fisherman submit c be communicated and go from the docks and have yet to see any visitors in the visitant center. Throw one's lot in with us as we slowly journey and travel our charming homeland. We are traveling and living full however in our 2010 36 ft Postage Cameo (35SB3) fifth ring as we take all together to see the sights, encounter the people and get to be sure this unique hinterlands of ours. We’ve been on the track since October of 2009 and we foresee our hazard will into us for a few years. Our two Boxers, Maggie and Rico will object to us throughout our new lifestyle! I’m in my delayed 40’s and retired September 11, 2009 as a Sergeant with The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Organization...
