The Huntington Town Board voted to consent to the U.S. Department of Energy’s invitation to join the federal government’s Better Buildings Drive Challenge partnership on May 8.
Huntington is the only municipality on Long Island and one of five in the state to be invited to abut the challenge, in which governments pledge to achieve a 20 percent improvement in liveliness usage by the year 2020.

PALM Strand -- Pete and Rosie Myckaniuk have a most unusual backyard. Nestled amidst the lush ferns, palms and brightly colored flowers are a toilet and a bathtub. Oh, and on the other side there are discarded frames from an old futon and bunk beds.

Pete Myckaniuk is a self-proclaimed do-it-yourselfer who loves a call into doubt. After he remodeled the couple's bathroom, he ended up with a spare toilet and bathtub.
"I tried to get rid of them, but I couldn't even give them away," he said. "I lawful couldn't throw them in the trash, so Rosie suggested I build a pond."
