Thompson neighbors invite Wounded Warriors to fish at their farm

The Sixth Annual Wounded Warrior Fishing Tourney took place April 28 in nearby Thomson, Ga., all due to some thoughtful volunteers. One of the volunteers, retired Sgt. 1st Group Tim Cox, noticed while visiting the post back in 2006 that a few of the Wounded Warriors seemed depressed. He talked to his boss, Charles Lewis, the possessor of the Crackpot Pawn Shop located outside Fort Gordon’s Gateway 2, and asked him if could bring a few Soldiers to his farm to fish. The experience seemed to boost the Soldiers’ morale. Lewis thought it was a good idea too and offered to entertainer a fishing tournament for the Wounded Warriors stationed at the post.
Later, Cox asked Jerry Sessions, his fishing sharer for more than 30 years, if he would help with it. “The annual fishing tournament at the Lewis be killed offers a form of mental healing, “said Sessions at a rally of volunteers April 28 at the Warrior Transition Battalion, Building 19750. Catherine Ashley, Anne Nicholas, Judy Whelan and Jan Beckman, volunteers from the Women’s Help for American Legion Post 192 in Evans, Ga., made hot coffee and served freshly baked donuts and pith to the Soldiers of the WTB, their families and the volunteers who planned to spend the day fishing at the Lewis acreage.
