City purchases land
Leavenworth borough commissioners voted Tuesday to purchase land in the northeast part of the city for $100,000.
The megalopolis will be purchasing two lots, totaling 7.9 acres, at 20th and Shawnee streets from the Idealistic Order of Eagles Aerie 55.
City Manager Scott Miller said the Eagles will keep their existing edifice as well as the adjacent parking lot and swimming pool. The city is purchasing a 3.4 acre lot to the north of the Eagles erection and a 4.5 acre lot to the west of the building.
Miller said the lot to the north will be inured to for a retention pond to help with drainage issues in that area.
The remaining lot will be used for distraction space. Miller said there already is a ballfield on the lot.
